Maya Angelou on Twitter (and Women’s Health)

In case you haven’t noticed, the great Maya Angelou is ALL OVER Twitter. Ok Maya Angelou herself may not exactly be hooked on Hootsuite (her official account puts out about a tweet a month or so) but it’s nearly every few minutes that someone shares a quote from her. What makes her so quotable? In three words (as her website so aptly describes) she’s a “global Renaissance woman.” With all of the amazing works she has produced and lives she has influenced with her gifts and her time, I am unreservedly honored to be speaking at the inaugural Maya Angelou International Women’s Health Summit in North Carolina in September.

Along with internationally acclaimed founder of the Worldwide Fistula Fund Dr. Lewis Wall, I will cover several topics within the session “Obstetrical Complications: Cross Cultural Perspectives on Fistulas and Genital Mutilation.” I’ll discuss ways that pelvic floor rehabilitation is critical for comprehensive physical recovery from fistula and other obstetrical complications and will share specific experiences about how this has been implemented at HEAL Africa in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.

It’s such a wonderful opportunity to get WAI’s message and programs out there on a national stage, but we need some help! As part of the faculty we’ve been offered a chance to get our wearable cornhusk “MayFlowers” in the gift bags of attendees and to have a vendor table representing The Women’s ACTION Initiative and Share MayFlowers. But we need your help to raise a few thousand dollars to cover the cost of flowers and the placement. If interested in supporting WAI at this significant event on an individual or corporate level, please donate here or contact me directly for more details.
